I wanted to look into the psyche of a person and understand the possibilities of ’breaking your foundation’. There are many things that can come from life that can either shape you or break you. What can we learn from tragedies? What would you do if you lost your parents, and your best friend through car accidents? Do you stop living or do you allow the situation to recreate you? Pivot’s foundation was shaken and she fell into the allure of basketball and drowned herself into the game. Seeing that the route she was taking in basketball had made her a dominant player, she was also seeing that she had became an asshole. Intend of going into the draft for the WNBA where she would of easily became the number one player, she instead left the country to Tibet. Leaving everything behind meant that she was leaving behind the old Pivot and recreating a new Pivot. By studying Zen Buddhism, she began to come terms with herself and what her purpose was in life. Through Zen Buddhism Pivot was able to change her mental approach to the game and learn how to center herself to play basketball in a zone. She was a player now that she was able to play in a zone and not get rattled by distractions. |
